A different way to match people and jobs
CareersNZ is a national talent pool that puts candidates in control. Job-ready people across every major New Zealand sector opt in, build a profile, and choose their region and the kind of work they want. Employers search for who fits, but they only ever see a first name, a location, licences and a short bio. Nobody gets your surname, email or phone number until you decide to apply. It is recruitment without the cold calls and without handing your details to strangers.
The difference matters more than it sounds. On a job board you are one of two hundred applications, and you only exist once you apply. In a talent pool you exist all the time. An employer in Hamilton who needs a forklift operator next Tuesday can see that you are in Waikato, that you hold an F endorsement, and that you are open to warehouse work, without you having to spot the advert first. The work finds you rather than the other way around.
It also fixes the part of job seeking people quietly hate. Once your phone number is on a job board it is on a job board. Recruiters you have never spoken to call about roles in cities you have never lived in. In the CareersNZ pool that cannot happen, because there is no phone number to call until you have decided you want the conversation.
How it works
Candidates opt in
Job-ready candidates build a CV, join the talent pool, and pick their sector and region.
Employers post a role
Create a listing or paste a Seek or Trade Me link. We match candidates in that sector and region.
Invite to apply
Employers see a first name, location, licences and a short bio, tick who they like, and we invite them. The candidate makes the first move.
Joining takes about a minute. There is no CV upload gate, no psychometric test and no waiting for approval. You pick a region, tick the sectors you would consider, write two sentences about yourself and tick any licences you hold. From that moment you are visible to matching employers, and you stay visible until you say otherwise.
What makes CareersNZ different
Your details stay yours
No surname, email or phone number is ever shown to an employer while you are in the pool. Those details travel only with an application you chose to send.
Every major sector
Ten sector guides covering freight and logistics, manufacturing, construction and trades, healthcare, food and fibre, retail, hospitality, finance, business administration, and cleaning and security.
Free on both sides
Candidates never pay. Employers register, post roles and invite candidates for free, with a verified business email keeping the pool trustworthy.
Every major NZ sector
From freight and trades to healthcare, hospitality and finance, CareersNZ covers the sectors that keep New Zealand working. Explore the careers in each one.
Each sector guide sets out the roles people actually get hired into, what you need to walk in the door, and where in the country the work is concentrated. If more than one appeals, tick more than one. Being open to two or three sectors is one of the fastest ways to get found, particularly in a smaller region where any single industry only hires so often.
Working right across New Zealand
CareersNZ is national, not city-only. Candidates in the pool choose from every region: Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough, the West Coast, Canterbury, Otago and Southland, or they mark themselves as flexible and willing to relocate.
That matters because New Zealand's labour market is regional in a way national statistics hide. Port and freight work clusters around Auckland, Tauranga, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. Horticulture peaks in Hawke's Bay, Gisborne, Marlborough and Central Otago. Dairy processing sits through Waikato, Taranaki and Southland. Construction follows the consent pipeline, which moves. A candidate who marks themselves flexible on location often hears about work months before it reaches a national job board.
For employers and labour-hire
Free to register. Verify your business email, post or paste a role, and reach job-ready candidates directly. Post across multiple sectors, and you will only see candidates for the sectors you are hiring in.
Because every application comes from someone who read your role and chose it, the shortlist you get is warm. You spend your time on interviews rather than on filtering out people who applied to forty jobs in one sitting.
Privacy first
Employers see a first name, location, sector of interest, licences and endorsements, and a short bio, never a surname, email or phone number. Candidates always make the first move by applying through the employer's own advert. Candidates can withdraw from the pool at any time. Read our privacy approach.
Candidate profiles are not public web pages. They are not indexed by search engines and they are not sold, rented or shared with third parties. CareersNZ handles personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Who CareersNZ is for
School leavers who have no CV worth the name yet and need someone to look past that. Career changers who can do the work but keep getting screened out because their last job title was in another industry. Parents returning after time out. People in a job they do not hate but would leave for the right offer, who cannot risk their name showing up on Seek. Skilled migrants with overseas experience that a keyword filter does not recognise. And employers who are tired of two hundred applications where six are relevant.
Common questions
What is CareersNZ?
A national talent pool for Aotearoa. Job-ready candidates across every sector join, and employers reach them while candidates keep their contact details private until they choose to apply.
Is it free for candidates?
Yes. Joining is free, and your surname, email and phone number are never shown to employers. You always make the first move.
How do employers use it?
Employers register free, verify a business email, post or paste a role, and see privacy-minimal candidate cards. Details are shared only when a candidate applies.
Is CareersNZ a job board?
No. A job board lists vacancies and waits for applications. CareersNZ is a talent pool, so candidates are visible first and employers come to them. Where an employer already has a Seek or Trade Me advert, we pass that link to matched candidates rather than duplicating the listing.
Do I need experience or a qualification to join?
No. School leavers, career changers and people returning to work are all welcome. Plenty of the sectors in the pool hire on reliability and attitude and train from there.
Which regions do you cover?
All of them, from Northland to Southland, and you can mark yourself as flexible on location if you would move for the right role.
Will my current employer see that I have joined?
Your profile is not a public page and is not indexed by search engines. Employers see only a first name, a location, licences and a short bio, so you can look quietly.
Do you scrape data from Seek or Trade Me?
No. We do not harvest or store candidate data from any job site. Everyone in the pool chose to join it.
